The 5.6 mile walk begins at 10am from Rainton Meadows car park, postcode DH4 6PU. What 3 words: flops.handsets.loaf
The route is mostly flat on good pathways. We will take a route around Joe's Pond and make our way out of the Nature Reserve onto Hazard Lane. From there will will pick up a footpath through Hetton Bogs (much nicer than it sounds although, unsurpringly, it can get 'boggy' after heavy rains). The path leads us to Hetton Park, where there are seats if walkers wish to stop for refreshments (bring your own). There is a quite steep tarmac bank leading up out of the park. After passing through Hetton, we'll take public bridleways into East Rainton, walking up a gentle bank through this pretty village. We'll then cross the A690 by the Highfield Hotel. This takes us down some steps back into Rainton Meadows.
The walk took us 2.25 hours with only short stops.
There are toilets at Rainton Meadows and at the Hetton Centre (which is on our route) if required. Rainton Meadows also has a good cafe.
