Led by Paul & Julie Stevens. This is an easy 8.5 mile linear walk. It starts at Malton Picnic Site car
park, which is situated just off the A691 Durham to Lanchester road. It is clearly signposted with brown road signs.

As the name suggests, we follow the Lanchester Valley Way path, which
follows the old Consett to Durham railway line. We pass through
Lanchester and some lovely countryside until we reach Knitsley Farm
Shop and Café. Here we can take a well-earned rest and partake of
some refreshments, before starting off on the return leg of the walk.
On the walk we will pass some beautiful gardens and, if they are still
there, you’ll have an opportunity to admire some fine young bulls which,
thankfully, are behind some secure gates.
The conditions underfoot are very good, with only a few declines/inclines
where we cross roads.
