Meet outside Durham Gala Theatre, Millennium Square

Either use the Park & Ride or one of the Durham car parks arriving in time to set off at 10am.

We will set off down to the riverside walking past Durham Business School, over The Sands, and along to Kepier farm. We will walk past the old Kepier Gatehouse and then along the rutted farm track until we enter Kepier Wood. We walk with the river to our left as we follow the hiking path. We have a short walk up a steepish bank to a small car park just off the A690. This is about 2.4 miles from the start: there is a picnic bench if a stop for coffee is wanted. We then continue parallel to the A690 for a while before turning down a field (following a burn to the left) before turning once again into Kepier Wood. We turn to follow the river which is now on our right. After a while we rejoin our original path and complete the walk back to our starting point.

The walk is mostly flat - there is one ascent to the car park and a descent down the side of a field.

The path through the wood is clear but you need to keep an eye out for large stones and tree roots along the way: depending on the weather it could be clarty. There are five stiles and one small gate, two bridges and two sets of simple stepping stones over small burns.
