Washington Village

Watergate Park

Event type: Group meeting
Date: 29th November 2024
Time: 10:00 am
Group: Walking

Led by Derek & Val Ginsberg. This is an undulating circular walk of approximately 3 1/2 miles. Although most of the slopes are fairly gentle there are a few more strenuous climbs. We walk through the park before leaving for a  short stretch alongside Broom Lane and Sunniside Road. The walk will then follow public footpaths through Marshall Lands farm and cross the A692 to join the old railway path. At the end of the path we rejoin the park routes back to the car park.

Unfortunately there are no public toilets on the walk but there is a cafe with ‘Customer Only’ toilets at the end of the walk although they may not be open when we start the walk. So I suggest a coffee there after the walk.

Directions. From the A1 western by-pass take A692 - signposted Whickham up Lobley Hill. At the top of the hill turn right at the traffic lights onto Whickham Highway. The entrance to the car park is on the left in about 400 yards.
