Angel of the North Walk: No. 4, led by Terry Harris.

No stiles or steps but inclines. Distance 3.75 to 4.75 miles, depending on conditions and walkers’ needs. Start in car park at Angel of the North, leaving at 10am. Cross A167 at pedestrian lights, turning left and then right over fields to follow contours of Ravensworth Golf course. Cross Long Bank onto path between fields to Dunkirk Farm. Turn left and climb steep (optional) path just short of the Engine Room and loop back down again, turning left and then right to visit Bowes Incline pub if necessary (coffee and comfort break). Continue past Bowes Incline pub along path to emerge at slip road to cross at 1 st lights, over A1 bridge to path on right. At bottom turn right and follow path along Northside. Turn left (no through road) and find hidden path across (muddy) fields which leads to the other end of the new pedestrian bridge. For short version, retreat steps from Bowes Incline to cross over new pedestrian bridge and turn right following path alongside A1 to roundabout, cross two roads (watch out for diversion signs) and return to car park.
Alternative walk: start through woodland at back of the Angel of the North and omit A1 bridge past Bowes Incline pub.
