The first meeting was on 20th June 2024. We welcome people who are interested in active participation and performance plus those who prefer to watch, be entertained, and give feedback.
Notes for those interested in joining any group.
1. Anyone can attend one monthly meeting and one interest group meeting before deciding whether to join Washington Village u3a. Annual membership from 1st April 2026 is £12 (from 1st October until 31st March it is £8). More information about membership is on our Join Us page. Please note that there is a fee to attend some group sessions.
2. Please contact the "Group Leader" BEFORE attending a group to ensure there is space (click on the name at the top of this page to send a message).

Comedy and Sketch Group
A) AIMS AND OBJECTIVES (MEMBERSHIP)
This Group aims TO JOIN TOGETHER with other like-minded
members who are interested in any aspects of 'Comedy"
a) Some members may want to have an ”observer” role and watch or listen to group activity,
b) Others will want to write, perform, produce and direct comedy pieces.
(Some may wish to develop techniques in this area.)
c) Members may wish to research and investigate comedy legends and genres and present their findings to other members.
In summary anybody and everybody can be a member and get some satisfaction through membership.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES (Activities)
1) "Sketches"(Scratch Events)
From time to time, members will write, rehearse, and present to others ( members only, or invited audiences) various sketches/ plays,/poems,/songs/other, either as individuals or groups.
Another option would be to re-enact existing scripts
Frequency of these sketches ( known as Scratch events) might be on
* The 5th Thursday of the month ~(usually occurs 4 times per year)
* every five or six months at monthly meeting
* other dates to be decided from time to time.
2) Presentations to group members
From time to time members may wish to research a particular Comedy Legend or genre and make a presentation to the members based on their findings.
3) Joint projects with other members
To develop, with other members, a theme or themes to produce a presentable sketch for Scratch performance.
4) Professional or Amateur Presentations (Shows).
To view, with members and/or others, during group meetings, special Scratch Events presented by others.
At other times attend professional or amateur comedy performances.(shows)
To watch short clips of a comic show (DVD) and then discuss the technique used to make us laugh.
5) Other Comedy Projects as decided from time to time
Any other project the the group may decide meets their comedy criteria.
